As an exhibitor at EuroShop 2023, one of the world's largest trade fairs, we spoke to many trade fair participants, attended presentations and discussed the current topics that are currently driving the world of retail. From 26.02. - 02.03.2023 around 81,500 trade visitors from five continents filled the Düsseldorf exhibition halls.
We take stock:
Despite the political "end of the pandemic", EuroShop 2023 was not well attended! As a result, the trade fair recorded a drop in visitors of around 28% compared to 2017 (the last EuroShop before the pandemic). However, it must be mentioned that the quality of the discussions was extremely high and the potential acquired at the fair is very good.
We go to trade fairs like the EuroShop because we want to be pushed to our performance limits and be challenged to the maximum by interested parties, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all days of the fair! We weren't really exhausted one evening - too bad.
One of the EuroShop trends that are relevant for us are clearly the topics of self-checkout, self-scanning and autonomous stores. The shortage of skilled workers paired with the required 24/7 availability requires exactly this orientation. Checkout systems at the POS and hybrid or even autonomous markets that can be operated flexibly with or without staff are the future.
Forward-thinking as we are, we were able to score points with our own self-checkout system POSMAN SCO and inspire many trade fair participants. Whether self-scan or RFID - we are already successfully implementing both methods.
Hybrid because the checkout software is exactly identical for both operating modes - the classic checkout and the self-checkout. Only the touch surface changes for the operator and can therefore be used extremely flexibly.
Our "Orange Shoes" team started the fair highly motivated. Prepared with new technologies in the field of cash register software and ERP, we waited for the crowds of visitors. However, disillusionment quickly spread. The hoped-for trade fair participants did not materialize except for a few peaks. The visitors who found their way to us, however, were enthusiastic about our solutions - especially about our self-checkout system, which can be optically and technically very flexibly adapted.
